There are so many emails and promotions floating around these days for systems or courses claiming to help you create products in 8-hours or less…and technically, they may be telling the truth, but for many of you looking to really get into information marketing, the information can be quite misleading.

So can you create a product in 8-hours or less?

The answer is yes, but…

This assumes you know your market and know exactly what they want already

That you have the content researched or from personal experience, ready to go

That you are either recording a teleseminar, audio recording or video webinar sharing your information

That you are NOT factoring in setting up your business on the internet, that you somehow magically have a sales letter written and that you already have a list or sales funnel setup

So, the answer is yes, there are certain people that could have their own product created within a day…but that is most likely NOT the case for you and certainly does not mean you are ready to begin selling that product after 8-hours.

It's NOT All Bad News Though…

The good news is that many of us have gone through complete product development cycles that take between 20-40 hours (with an hour a day, this means 3-6 weeks part-time, or only 1-2 weeks if you have more time to spend). This is really a drop in the bucket compared to the earning potential your information marketing business can bring you.

I have created products in 4-6 hours of work – basically a presentation for a paid webinar that is simultaneously recorded and viola, you have two products (a paid webinar and a packaged set of mp4's ready to launch as a video training product)

However, the work required for someone brand new to uncover the market, pull out the questions with the most desire (highest demand), build momentum toward your product (aka traffic), put togeher the content and then put everything in place to sell (sales letter, sales funnel) as well as payment links, and follow up systems – that's where the 20-40 hours comes in.

Here's a recent, simple 6-week information marketing roadmap that you can use to put your own information product plan together.

The good news is that once you have launched, the hours for promotion go down over time (as you get listed in the SERP's, recruit affiliates, gain a following, etc…), and you can enjoy the true power of an information marketing business – leveraged income.

Forgive me if this comes across as a little too harsh, but it is Friday and I've had to put up with a lot of crap this week!

When you make it your main function to help people make progress and profits in their own internet businesses by targeting niche markets and developing info products…there is a great deal of confusion and mis-truth's that comes with the territory.

Every Tom, Dick and Jane has an opinion on how to effectively market information products such as ebooks, books, training courses and the like…BUT…how many of these Tom, Dick and Jane characters actually make money (let alone a living) doing it?

I won't push you for an answer on that, because the number is so tiny it is laughable.

Take an exchange on a forum I had with one "so-called" expert today who advises people to stay away from competitive niches…stay on the fringes.

Great Strategy!

If you want to sell a couple hundred dollars a month in ebooks…but don't expect to make a living (or even close) using this strategy.

In my experience with several info products and coaching lots of others, newbies can (and often do) make fatal mistakes by avoiding competitive niches than they would make by recklessly entering a competitive market.

LEARN TO DOMINATE COMPETITIVE NICHES AND YOU WILL BE BURIED WITH PROFIT!

The answer is not avoiding competition, the idea is to get good at niche marketing – period!

You can compete in busy markets like IM, weight loss, Personal development, etc… IF you can target an insane desire and develop a results-based system to solve their problem.

The issue 99% of ebooks that come my way have (that are not successful) is not that they are getting lost because it's too competitive, it is that they are getting lost because they are badly positioned!

Instead of focusing on a result, they focus on informing or have such a weak value proposition that nobody will touch it with a 10-foot pole.

In fact these mistakes are so prolific there are 99 who make the mistake for every 1 that I see get it right…who likes those odds?

YOU WILL MAKE THESE MISTAKES TOO, UNLESS…

If you are considering information marketing, writing ebooks, putting up a membership site, developing a training course or delivering information in any way on the internet…do yourself a favor and get over to InfoMarketer'sZone NOW!

I can almost guarantee that if you don't, you will make one of the very common mistakes that site helps you avoid, and your dreams of working from home on your own information publishing company will be squashed…nobody wants that.

On the other hand, get good at finding highly emotional desires and then targeting them precisely with a big promise and you can compete in any market – especially the competitive ones.

End of rant…the next post will be more positive – I promise!

By the way – if you have to get something off your chest about business or online marketing, leave a comment, and I'll know I did my part to take a little stress off your back.

You would think that e-books were just invented by the hype arising from the Kindle, Sony eBook Reader and now iPad and even the iPhone as Apple offers a growing number of ebooks through their iTunes directory.

In fact, eBooks have been around for more than a decade and have been selling extremely well – mainly in PDF format – for most of that time.

We have had our Create & Market Your Own Ebooks System in place for 8-years now helping hundreds of people successfully create and market their own digital ebooks – and that was BEFORE the big push with e-book readers.

But certainly, mainstream adoption of ebooks is suddenly opening up the world of self-publishing and writing ebooks to millions who had previously though that the world of publishing was only for celebrities and experts.

A common question I get now is "So Why Would An Ebook I Write Sell Anyway?"

There are two doubts, the first is why would someone buy an electronic version of a non-fiction book versus the physical version they can get in the bookstore and second, why would anyone buy something that they would write?

To the first question, while you can certainly market an ebook version of a typical bookstore book, that is not the really big opportunity…in fact, the bigger opportunity with digital ebooks and info products is to go beyond the general fluff you get with most formulaic books in a bookstore targeting more desparate markets with pin-point, laser-focused systems and information that fulfill their desires.

I think of these as more digital training packages than ebooks, a more valuable asset to your customer because they can use your ebook to achieve something that is backed by great emotional desire and desparation…and for that they will pay a premium.

MY STORY — A $67 EBOOK?

I have helped companies put together Million dollar training seminars and consulting programs for years, then in 2001 I wrote my first info product package which consisted of a 95-page Guidebook, 25-page workbook, two 5-page special reports and 2 audio interviews selling for $67.

At the time, my costs to start that business were less than $100 (mainly graphics for website and basic setup for webhosting/autoresponder, etc…) – I made 12 sales in the first week of that product going live which returned many times my investment.

What is even cooler is that the same product (with updates each year) still sells like crazy today, but now we have 11 others.

70% of our sales are digital products while 30% are physical – books and DVD's.

EBOOKS DO SELL IF…

1. You focus on a desire your market has to be, have, do or avoid something at a highly emotional level. E-books are emotional buys to exceptionally desparate buyers. Think someone who is at wits end trying to deal with a troubled teen, an alcoholic spouse, a lifetime of shyness, a mountain of stress, a painful health condition, a frustration with their current life situation, a passion to play an instrument like their favorite idol, etc…

2. That you package a system – your own method for solving a particular problem or achieving a strongly desired end result. Most books in the bookstore are general overviews of a particular topic (Ex Yoga for Beginners), but what you can do as an ebook author is APPLY that knowledge to partucular sub-niches – Yoga for the new Mom, Yoga to deal with Anxiety… Do you see what I mean? By taking general knowledge often available in bookstores and apply it to specific market desires you can charge more, keep far more of the profits (with ebooks you keep it all) AND have a happier customer because they get it instantly.

3. That you continue to serve your customer with additional help and products. This is your hidden, powerful advantage — When someone buys from our company, they are put into a system where we continue to send them useful information, updates, interviews (many at no charge), and then when we have a new product to release, the customer is happy to buy from us.

It is the close relationship of having someone buy your ebook online that allows you to keep this close relationship with your reader – something that is much harder to do for authors that write books in bookstores.

As anyone in business knows, acquiring your customer is the toughest part, so being able to continue feeding that relationship and offering them additional products and services is what builds the immense growth in your own info product business – all started with your ebook.

Let me put this to rest once and for all…ebooks do sell, they sell extremely well and they CAN sell for much more than books do in the bookstore AND they can fuel tremendous income opportunties and business options that are virtually limitless. With the current mass market adoption of ebook readers, that opportunitiy will now grow astronomically – and this is the right time to get moving.

You will find all the information you need about what is involved in creating and marketing your own ebooks online to decide if this may be a direction you want to take…better move fast!

We just finished up a 1.5 hour interview and tutorial on writing book titles that sell which is now uploaded to Information Markter'sZone when an article appeared in the New York Times titled "Titlenomics, Or Creating Best Sellers".

On the heels of the tremendously successful Freakonomics – the best selling 2005 book by Steven D Levitt and Stephen J Dubner, a new book has been released by Claire Shipman and Katty Kay titled "Womenomics".

So, the debate about what makes a great title for a book and how often successful title patterns can be copied ensues.

What is clear is that great book titles contain the following charateristics:

Attention Grabbing – great titles instantly grab widespread attention – take one of the top selling non-fiction books on Amazon right now "Virus of the Mind: The New Science of Meme". Virus of the mind certainly grabs our attention, leading the way for a solution that is "New"

Emotionally Grabbing – titles that are most effective at converting "lookers" into "customers" do a very good job at tapping into the emotion of particular pain or desire for pleasure in one's life. "How To Win Friends and Influence People" is a great example. One of the most fundamental human emotions is to be "wanted" – to "fit in" and to "be loved" all of which are covered by this simple title.

Achievement Grabbing – the other main trait found in many excellent book titles is the promise (implied or overt) that the information contained in this book will help you to finally fulfill your desire and help you come closer to overcoming the pain or achieving the pleasure you desire. For example "Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity" contains a very clear promise – that suffering with low productivity and the frustration of not making any forward progress will be overcome and suddenly we will be able to finally get things done in our life after reading this material.

Are you writing a non-fiction book?

Do you already have a book, ebook or information product (audio package, home study course, seminar, coaching program, etc…), but just can't seem to sell it as well as you would like?

You think it's tough marketing your own ebook, book or info product – imagine doing a series of book signings, traveling the airports at 7-months pregnant?

That's just what Heather Armstrong, author of "It Sucked and Then I Cried: How I Had A Baby, a Breakdown, and a Much Needed Margarita" is going through – and just yesterday she appeared on Oprah (albeit by Skype rather than in person) as part of her show on new Moms.

You see, the idea for her last book came with her last child when she decided to tell the world the "other" side of having children.

Most books for new Mom's (especially those written by men) tend to only look at the positive side of chid rearing – but really anyone who has been a parent knows there are TWO sides to the parenting coin.

I know as a father that there is anxiety, worry, stress, anger, frustration and…did I mention worry…all wrapped up in parenting – and that's only me – the FATHER. Mothers have that time 1o!

I want you to head over and read this brief, but great interview with Heather on how she started publishing her blog which led to her first book (hmm….where have we heard that before?) and on to a star-studded publishing career, fame and ah-hem…fortune, right Heather?

Now – as aspiring authors and information publishers, what can we learn from Heather?

1. Everday life events hold the secret to top selling topics. Heather began with her blog telling tales of her first parenting experience and it caught on – because it is REAL and other people want to know they are not alone, that there are others going through what they are going through. Then came the book – out of experience writing about REAL feelings and REAL stuff, Heather clued into an angle for her book that has made a huge difference in her life.

2. Blogging can lead to great book ideas and info product topics. Look, if you aren't sure about your "angle", unique value proposition or particular topic, then just start writing – blogs are a great way to build a following, attract some participation from your market and begin to collect information on what they are interested in…that WILL lead to book ideas and topics

3. Heather decided to be somewhat of a contrarian – she saw that most parenting books were skewed toward either theory or a positive representation of the experience when in fact, there are two sides to parenting – well 3 actually – the good, the bad and the ugly. So, she chose to take a unique position in the publishing market and address the bad and the ugly. That sets you apart from your competition – smart thinking!

So – your assignment for today, should you accept the challenge, is to pick a few things from the last 6-months you have gone through in your life that you could write about, here are some examples to get you started:

A new pet

Dealing with an ageing parent

Retirement

A major career or geographical move

Taking a year off work

Being fired (or sorry "let go")

Dealing with the trials and tribulations of middle age

Downsizing your house or lifestyle

Taking a beating on the stock market and learning from it…

With each of these areas come major lifestyle changes AND you know that hundreds of thousands of others are going through the same thing.

If you are not quite sure what a book, ebook, or membership site on the topic might look like, then start blogging – head over to InfoMarketer'sZone where we can help you with ideas on how to turn information into a business income so you can fulfill your dreams of turning your hobby for writing, blogging or publishing information into a full-time income with just a few hours each day.

Just as Heather took a very common life experience and began sharing her information with the world, you can do the same and find you have created your own information publishing business – like it or not!

When it comes to putting together your experiences, ideas and research into your own book writing project, it always helps to hear the experiences of those that have been-there, done-that!

Having gone through the process many times myself, there are certain things you learn about book writing that makes the process much less intimidating, massively quicker and much less painful – but then that's the value of experience right?

A BOOK ABOUT TRAINING FOR A MARATHON

In the definitive guidebook about writing non-fiction, how-to books The Ultimate Information Entrepreneur's Success Package, we share techniques for uncovering niche markets where the most basic life experiences, interests, passions, hobbies and challenges can be turned into highly profitable books, ebooks and training products that can make you an extra $500/month or be turned into your own 6-figure to 7-figure information publishing business online.

Here's a very humorous, yet educational blog posting from Roman Mica who recently published a book about his experience training for a marathon titled "No Seriously, My Training Starts Tomorrow".

Roman pokes fun at the experiences of both training and book writing, but within these humorous Top 10 list of how to write a book are some powerful book writing tips…specifically:

It helps to be active or have first-hand experience with what you are writing about. An alternative approach is to co-write, consult with or have a ghostwriter help you who can add personal experience to your project if you lack that first-hand context

Humorous as he puts it – having an editor review your material can make a big difference to the end quality of your work. However, do not edit as you write – instead outline your book by purpose and question, generate your content and then edit when it's written

Roman talks about how you must make time in the day for your writing – it doesn't much matter if you are writing a book about parenting, business success, a personal hobby or a marathon, you will need to consistently allocate 30-60 minutes a day to keep momentum on your book writing. The outlining techniques within The Ultimate InfoProduct Marketer's Success Package will dramatically improve your ability to write productively anytime, anywhere.

Ok, so you don't need to have the same rigorous diet to be a book writer as you would to run a marathon, still it helps to get proper sleep, eat well and stay consistently healthy as you write your book

Perhaps the most useful (I'll even dare say "hidden secret") tip Roman gives is to start a blog on your topic before (or at least as) you write your book – you will draw traffic, begin building an audience and get feedback (assuming you post regularly and are good at getting readers to participate) that you can work into your book writing projects

I love it when book writer's share their experiences with us – from each one of these case studies we can learn more that will make us more effective writers and info product publishers.

What will the topic of your next report, book, ebook or info product be?

Jeff

There are many ways to uncover potentially high-demand, high-profit, money making, niche markets where you could create infoproducts like ebooks, reports, newsletters, audios, videos or membership sites to sell online.

For example, you could decide to create books or ebooks to sell online setting you up with your very own internet business that pays you each time someone visits your website and decides to buy your info product.

Packaging information is a highly profitable, very rewarding online business model that is especially attractive because you leverage a few weeks work into many months (even years) of sales. Imagine you create how to ebooks on your favorite hobby, overcoming a challenge in your life, a parenting or reltionship technique you have learned from experience, you put it up on the internet, create a webpage and collect 95% profit each time someone buys your ebook.

Before you can create infoproducts, put up a website, setup a blog or make any money with your internet business you must have uncovered a niche market that has built-in demand for information and be able to reach them.

We've had our own info products offline and online for over 15-years now ranging from customer service training courses through weight loss programs, recipe books to sites like this information marketing training system that help others use the methods and techniques we've used to build their own high-profit internet business marketing information.

The absolute best part about uncovering a hot niche market for your info products is that making sales will take far less effort and people are willing to pay MORE money for your information because their desire is RABID!

There are dozens of ways to uncover niches that have proven demand for buying information – we share those all over at InfoMarketer'sZone, but today lets just look at one method where we have extracted 10 ideas to create infoproducts in less than 5-minutes.

CREAT INFOPRODUCTS WITH THESE 10 NICHE MARKET IDEAS

For today, here are 10 topics that we pulled from searching through Yahoo Answers for less than 5-minutes…the good news about these topics is that they come directly from web users who are actively searching for information on these topics.

1. How do we deal with cyber-bullying

2. What are the things to think about when you are planning a wedding?

3. What are the basics about home schooling?

4. How come I only feel good one in 10 days, can I not feel better more often?

5. Recommended pain control techniques for expectant mothers?

6. What can I do to have a chance of being a pro wrestler?

7. How do I survive a breakup with my boyfriend/girlfriend?

8. How do I know if we are compatible – that we will make a good couple?

9. What things should I keep in mind to make internet dating successful?

10. How can I better control or get rid of migraine headaches?

Guys – these are questions that have multiple responses, many of them have multiple requests for answers demonstrating demand and urgency of desire behind their request for information.

What should you do next if you choose one of these topics?

Assess the level of competition, find evidence of other related info products, outline your product, quickly put together a short ebook and launch your product.

For example, the question about relationships should lead you over to Clickbank.com Marketplace where you can input different relationship keywords and see how ebooks on Clickbank are selling.

Near the top of the most popular results is a book called "The Magic Of Making Up (Get Your Ex Back" – which is one of the most popular and hottest selling ebooks of the 30,000 plus info products listed.

Should you create infoproducts around that niche? Assuming you find proven signs that users are buying information on that topic AND we can reach them through email, search marketing or other advertising methods, AND assuming you have some level of interest in being active in this niche market, then yes – go ahead and create info products to get your internet business rolling.

How simple is it to package your information into a report, ebook or book? Let's just say the methods we share within this InfoProduct Training System will have you marketing your first (or next) info product online in less than 30-days…Guaranteed!

Have questions about your desire to create infoproducts?

Still stumped on finding your niche market or info product topic – comment on this posting and we'll get you rolling.

For regular readers on this blog and members of our InfoProduct Developer's Resource Site, you'll know what I mean when I say that every great "How To" or informational non-fiction book focuses on helping the reader to realize a desired outcome.

That outcome may be to avoid pain, to overcome an illness, beat stress, reduce the pain associated with getting old or it could be to bring about positive outcomes such as losing weight, being happier, making more money, having well-behaved kids they can be proud of.

Bringing about an outcome is CRITICAL for any ebook, book, home study program or workshop – if you can identify a highly desired outcome and then offer a solution to help your reader get there, they will pay you rather massive amounts of money to achieve these results.

But let's peel back the onion one level further.

Is it REALLY the outcome they want?

Indirectly, yes.

But isn't it really the FEELING they perceive they will have once they have realized the result?

Losing weight gives you confidence, strength and an unstoppable feeling that will help give you more influence over others and "fit in" with society.

Having well-behaved kids will help relatives and friends to like you…to hold you in high esteem, perhaps even flower you with prestige.

Likewise, avoiding the pain associated with lack of sleep or low self-esteem can lift a cloud that hangs wearily over many people's heads today.

Anyone can write their own highly successful "How To" or information-based ebook, book, report, or training course IF you tap into desire to experience emotional high's or overcome emotional low's behind a desired outcome.

For example, here is a middle-aged woman who recently wrote about the experience mid-life women go through when their hair turns gray – it's aptly titled "Amazing Gray's"

Read this interview and notice some of the more powerful emotional factors that led to the choice of topic…mid-life women will wonder…

Will I continue to be lovable, desirable?

Can I still make a difference?

Is my life almost over?

Underlying these questions, and others asked within the book are the emotions of fear, uncertainty and anxiety. These are pretty major emotions – thus the powerful nature of this topic.

So, when you are considering writing your own book, ebook or info product – make sure you tie your topic back to desired outcomes AND the emotions that drive that desired outcome…do this and you wil have a winner.

Frequent readers of our blog will know that I sometimes like to randomly select information products (books, ebooks, reports, manuals, training programs and the like) that have recently been released to help learn about book writing and marketing.

The biggest challenges for aspiring book writers and information product entrepreneurs who seek assistance within InfoMarketer'sZone are:

1. Believing that with no prior writing or business experience, that they can create their own business based on publishing information within just a few, short months.

2. Knowing how to find a business idea and topic for their book writing and infoproduct business

3. Understanding how to be unique – to stand out from the crowd in markets where there are already numerous ebooks, books, and other info products

4. Getting their message out so they can drive more traffic and buyers to their websites

Indeed, these are the main factors that will impact the success of your book writing project – mess any of these up and you will end up with an underperforming business where you may move a few books a month….OR

Overcome these 4 challenges and watch as your book or ebook soars ever higher as more and more publicity and partners take on your books resulting in rapid growth in sales, profits and in your personal brand.

So, let's profile the newly released "How To Be Your Own Coach, Six Simple Questions For Achieving Your Goals!" asking ourselves how they have gotten it right given the 4 questions above – and what they might do to improve their business even further.

Ebook writing success tip #1: They have chosen a proven, in-demand, highly desirable target for their business and book topic. There is more than 50-years proof that books, ebooks, courses, audio and video packages sell well on the topic of goal setting. To many, this may be interpreted as a negative instead of a positive – they see this market as saturated or too busy…but that's simply not the case. As with weight loss, dieting, personal development, golf, etc…there is ample proof that there is a steady – even growing – demand for more information on these topics. What about your book writing topic – is there proof of past demand and consumption?

Ebooks writing success tip #2: The authors, Steve Bookbinder and Jeff Goldberg have differentiated themselves on not just one, but two criteria – their BIG idea and the format of their book. First, the BIG idea surrounds approaching goal setting based on getting results rather than just "setting" or constructing goals. The authors claim this book will guide the reader to goal achievement, not just goal development. That's a sweet spot for those who have already purchased dozens of goal setting books and ebooks. Second, they have written the book in a comic book format – entertaining and certainly different than the normal, dry and often boring goal setting books of the past.

Ebook writing success tip #3: Quality versus quantity – take note that this book is only 28-pages, but still provides full value for it's current $19.95 + shipping price point. In other words, for all of you who who have not yet started or finished your book or ebook writing projects because you believe you need to write a 150-page book, you should now see that this is simply not necessary. Several of our entrepreneurs within InfoMarketer'sZone have scaled back their plans, created an initial 30-50-page ebook or book and taken their market by storm – all taking less than 6-weeks to launch their first info product.

Ebook writing success tip #4: Sales funnel with back-end info profits. If you look closely at what Jeff Goldberg does for a living you will notice he delivers high-end information products such as onsite workshops and keynote speaches. That means not only will the authors pull in profits from their book, but they will be pulling in additional leads for their back-end, higher profit information products. Now, you don't need to be a speaker or seminar leader, your back-end product could be a membership site, an audio package, a series of screen capture videos or even personal or group remote coaching – there are many options that can turn a 6-figure ebook or book business into a 7-figure information product publishing juggernaut.

So, there are a few lessons we can all learn from in terms of what the authors have done right – how about a couple of suggestions of how they may improve their results?

Boosting Profits Suggestion #1: Offer an affiliate partner program – in the area of goal achievement and peak performance training there are already thousands of highly trafficked sites that may be willing to take on introducing this pair's book for a cut of the profits – even though they may need to give up 40%, they could end up easily upping their sales by a factor of 4-5 times – even as high as 10 if they really went after a partnership recruitment and training program. One way of establishing a strong affiliate base would be to offer an ebook version of their book and market it through Clickbank where tens of thousands of affiliates seek out products each day.

Boosting Profits Suggestion #2: With an improved sales page, the authors could convert additional visitors into customers. A sales page with stronger emphasis on benefits, the addition of a few testimonials and perhaps a bonus either delivered digitally or by mail would help to improve conversion of visitiors into sales.

Boosting Profits Suggestion #3: Capture the opt-in…Adding a strong offer of a free goal achievement course or goal achievement secret of the month to capture visitor opt-in would allow the authors to build a strong list of prospects interested in their area of expertise allowing them to expose them to their product multiple times with different messages, market additional products and services as well as promote their back-end seminars and workshops would improve their overall profits and secure a strong position in the marketplace for years to come

Most important of all…you should be able to see that you too could have your own signature information product – book, ebook, report, audio or video program in as little as just 6-weeks – that's what we teach in detail over at InfoMarketer'sZone – and with ongoing assistance to improve profits over time, you can build your own online information publishing empire that will secure your future from this point on.

When it comes to thinking up unique book ideas and book topics, sometimes we just try too hard. We may have a general audience in mind, a niche market defined and even know roughly what it is we want to write about, but it seems challenging sometimes to come up with the actual book writing idea or concept doesn't it?

One of the most important things we do for our info product entrepreneurs at InfoMarketer'sZone is to help take their knowledge, passions, interests, goals and existing ideas and refine them into the one single best topic that will both be interesting for them and will be commercially appealing to their audience.

ON YOUR WAY TO BECOMING "THE EXPERT"

After all…grabbing hold of a market that you will become "the expert" in is the single best way to gain reputation, a premium profit margin and market dominating position for your online business. Book writers who leap to the top of their sub-niche are rewarded with exceptional sales, profits, publicity, prestige and a massive opportunity to branch out into other directions such as high-end training products, membership sites, home study courses, seminars, multi-media packages, and so on…

So how do you take your desire for writing non fiction and turn it into a book or ebook that sets you aside and lets you dominate your market niche?

Case in point, this story outlines a first-time writer who decided (in his retirement) to write about Europe – specifically Italy. But what would his angle be?

He decided to write about the bridges in Venice.

A great way to differentiate yourself in busy, competitive markets is to focus in on a specific sub-niche within that marketplace.

The book writer could have written a general travel guide about Venice, but then he would have been competing with hundreds of other titles – some from very well entrenched travel publishing titles.

Instead, by writing about a specific aspect of Venice that still caters to travellers, they now have carved out a sub-niche that instantly makes them "the expert" in that subset of the market. Travellers now face the very real possibility of "missing out" on an important travel experience if they neglect the informatin in this book.

The idea of market segmentation into sub-niches for developing non-fiction info products is covered extensively in our Ultimate Information Entrepreneur's Success Package.

Instead of focusing on general weight loss, you can focus on weight loss for diabetics, the role of motivation in weight loss, a specific 20-day weight loss plan, or even take a different angle altogether and focus on low-impact exercises that we can fit into our daily routine that can drop 5-10 lbs (such as walking 5 sets of stairs a day, jogging on the spot for 10-min during our favorite TV show, etc…)

You can do this with almost any niche…keeping in mind the end result – the desired outcome – that people want to achieve, think outside of the box about how to approach the solution you provide differently.

TABLE OF CONTENTS SURFING

One terrific way of uncovering sub-niche treatments of topics is to look through the table of contents of top selling books targeting your audience and select a specific chapter as your main focus for a more detailed treatment.

For example, it's possible that "Bridges of Venice" were mentioned in other travel books as a chapter or even just as a highlight of interest – we recognize this as something we can turn into a book itself and away we go.

To be successful with your own book writing, self-publishing project or info product, you want to target an angle on your market that is still in-line with their primary desired outcome, but where you carve out a unique approach to delivering them to that desired outcome. That's the secret to generating a six or seven figure info product publishing empire.
