One of the first decisions you have to make when bringing a new ebook to market involves how you take payment and where you list your ebook for sale.

We have more than 12 of our own ebooks on the market, some of them we sell simply using Paypal, others we use 2Checkout.com and some we have chosen to use Clickbank.

The main reason for choosing Clickbank is that they offer the best e-book marketplace listing your ebooks so that others who want to promote your ebook (affiliates) can find them and promote them on their website. This obviously brings you traffic and extra sales.

So the question is…say you pay the ~$50 and get your product listed on Clickbank, what should you do next? Should you go right after finding affiliates and trying to ramp up sales that way?

My advice is get some basic promotion going for your ebook first – here's why:

1. You want to test your website copy, often your initial website will struggle to convert, so you want to run some tests and tweak your copy to improve conversions before sending allot of affiliate traffic – that way affiliates will be happier and stay promoting you instead of doing a promo or two and then giving up because they don't get any sales

2. You want to get your first few sales under your belt so that you meet CB's requirements on payout and on getting listed in CB Marketplace (which is where affiliates search for products to promote)

Once you are comfortable that your sales page and sales funnel is converting at something over 1% consistently and you have met the minimum requirements with Clickbank (which most likely you will have done during your testing)…then you can now aggressively move into seeking out affiliate partners, get them on board to really ramp up your sales and profits.

Are there similarities between top selling ebooks on Clickbank, Amazon's Kindle, Commission Junction and other ebook directories/retailers online that would help us better plan, write and market our own ebooks?

You better believe there are differences – and you gett he benefit of more than 10 years of personal experience not to mention 100's of coaching clients right here in one no-cost blog post…so please read this information very carefully and USE the techniques when creating your own infoproducts – ebooks or otherwise. (Be sure to consider the complete Ebook Writing And Marketing System Here To Really Get Quick, High Profit Results)

Many of these ebooks sell $1M or more worth in a year – some over $10M – not bad for $17-$37 digital ebooks from many first-time authors.

Let's take a closer look at what makes them sell so well…

1. Top Selling Ebooks Answer A Question.

The leading ebooks (and frankly – 99% of top non-fiction, non-celebrity ebooks) focus on providing useful answers to compelling questions in a given audience. They do NOT just inform, but rather teach, educate, offer their readers answers to questions and hope.

For example:

"Truth About Six-Pack Abs" – answers the question "How Can I Get Six-Pack Abs, even if I've already tried dieting and exercise?"

"Verical Jump Training – The Jump Manual" answers the question "How can I jump higher to make my basketball, volleyball or football team?"

"Vision Without Glasses" – answers the question "How can I get rid of my glasses without going through the pain and expense of laser eye surgery"

So it goes without saying that the better you are at uncovering patterns of urgent questions your market is asking, the better chance you will have of writing hot selling ebooks.

2. Promises (And Delivers) A Measurable Result

If you think about it, most questions are asked for a reason, and that reason is to help someone achieve a specific result. If they ask how they can lose 10 lbs in 30-days, this is likely because they want to lose the fat hanging over their pants, or outside of their bathing suit so they can look better for their friends.

So, not only do you want to focus your ebook topic around answering a question, you want to organize it around helping your customer achieve a desired outcome or end result. If what people are really looking for when they want to lose 10lbs is losing belly fat, then your system should focus on getting rid of belly fat AND get them some results (assuming they actually follow your system)

3. Private Help For Embarassing ProblemsA good many top selling ebooks are highly successful because they help people with problems that are embarrassing or uncomfortable to bring up with even professionals.

They will pay a premium to find answers to these uncomfortable questions simply because your ebook offers them a quick, simple, PRIVATE way to solve their problem.

Here are a few examples:

"Cure Hemorrhoids In 48-hours"

"Yest Infection No More"

"Master Public Speaking In 30-Days Or Less…"

In each of these cases, the desire to find a solution combined with the uncomfortable, embarassing option of getting professional help tends to make ebooks extremely popular.

4. Urgency – Immediate Help

Without exception, the really big sellers in non-fiction ebooks are information products that address URGENT questions and URGENT desire to achieve a result (either overcome a pain or gain a pleasurable result).

Here are a couple of examples

"The 4-Hour Body: An Uncommon Guide to Rapid Fat-Loss, Incredible Sex, and Becoming Superhuman" sits near the top of Kindle ebooks in sales – obviously urgency is the target with the 4-Hour reference in the title

"Get Your Ex-Girlfriend Back Now!" does a good job of targeting quick, systematic ways that customers can use to immediately begin fixing broken relationships without having to spend weeks in pain or seeing a therapist.

The good news is that popular discussions, questions or frustrations always have an element of urgency to them…it is your job to uncover the raw emotional reasons for that urgency and make that a key part of your ebook design and writing

5. Different Point Of View (Ex. Insider or New Information)

Another brilliant technique for targeting competitive markets with your own ebook or information product is to take a point of view or angle that is different…from a writing perspective this means having a different set of steps or tips, ordering those steps in a different way than past products have done or you base your solution on real-world or reearched experience.

You will often see top selling ebooks using descriptions like "New Technique For ____" or "Revealed, The Exact Way To ____"

Here are some recent examples of top selling ebooks that stand out for their unique angle or point of view:

- "Weird: Because Normal Isn't Working!" (A top selling Kindle ebook that implies that this information is very different)

- "Underground Hypnosis Course" (Implying "Inside" information)

- "Car Secrets Revealed" (One of the very first ebooks ever written by the late, great Corey Rudl

- "Truth About Hypnosis" (Assuming past ebooks did NOT share the truth)

In the end, it often takes less effort to write an ebook that will get you six to seven figure sales than it takes to write a poor selling ebook, so wouldn't you rather know what it takes to write one that sells?

Every top non-fiction, non-celebrity ebook that sells uses one or more of 5 techniques outlined above to make BIG profits…now you can use them too.

hen people visit our InfoProduct Creator's Success System we get asked all the time "Can I make $100/day with my own ebook?"

The fact is we have several sites bringing in income from ebooks, here is one that I hope helps people understand what it takes to make money with your own ebooks

Here's how one of my sites earns $100-$150/day consistently.

1. I identified this niche (sub-niche within personal development and self-improvement niche. Thre are three main methods I use to find these niches a) I look at busy discussion forums within my market of interest and study the topics that get the most attention, activity and reads…they tend to point to the HOT topics b) I then look for signs of existing infoproducts selling in this sub-niche…I like to find at least one or two that are selling well and c)uncover the main keywords that people use to search for solving the problem or geting the results that make up the sub-niche. Using these 3 methods you are guaranteed to find a high-potential niche you can turn into your first ebook topic

2. Built a platform using a blog – Your platform is simply a way to reach your audience and could mean one or more of a blog, content website, series of Youtube videos, social networking presence, etc…

My preference is a blog to which I direct traffic from videos and social networking sites if I have time. It is important that you get your blog or content site rolling to get indexed and ranked in Google and get some traffic flowing…often a few weeks of dedicated posting and some proper boomarking and back-link work can get you to this point

3. Put together your 1st Edition eBook. When I launched my ebook in this niche it was 62-pages in length, of whiche I had written 30-pages or so myself over a 1-week period, the remaining pages came from a combination of outsourcing one chapter (cost me $75 – we share how we did this inside InfoMarketr'sZone), and interview transcript from an expert interview that took me one hour to put together.

4. Grow your list. On your blog you should focus on converting your readers to subscribers (email subscribers) by putting together some freebies tat will be of value to your readers. These freebies could be reports, articles, a video, an interview, a teleseminar, access to a private page, etc… This way you pick off the more active and more desperate (ie. most likely buyers) from your overall readership

Converting blog readers into subscribers or customers – believe it or not, this is an art in itself. There are tons of blogs out there that have lots of traffic, readers, but that can't convert those readers into subscribers for the life of them. Most have a weak form off to the right ( that most people ignore), do not have compelling offer and do not mention their opt-in offer in their blog posts – if you do these 3 things you can convert more readers into active subscribers and buyers.

5. Sell on the thank you…we've done this with our own products or even with affiliate products (before our own products are ready) in the past. On the thank you page after someone subscribes to your list you give them a SPECIAL one-time offer of getting your ebook for 30% less (we priced it at $47, so they paid $33 on that day only…early 30% of subscribers bought right there!)

6. Your autoresponder sequence…We then run them through a daily autoresponder sequence for 14-days, (using our preferred autoresponder ) the first 3-days they get 25% off, the remainder of the sequence they get 20% off. After that I continue to publish weekly updates, articles, tips and newsletters to the list and sometimes put in 20% off offers, but a fair number still will buy in the future at regular price. Finally, I do also mix 2-3 offers of 3rd party affiliate products to my list each month, I try and always negotiate a joint promotion with the owners of those affiliate products so that they send me even more traffic to keep my pipeline fresh and growing.

So, using this approach I have consistent income generation on this ebook, have a rapidly growing list of both buyers and subscribers and grow my Clickbank proudct popularity due to the consistency of sales…works extremely well.

As the buzz around ebooks and alternative formats for publishing grows, as information marketers – entrepreneurs who package information and training into info products – we can get sucked into thinking that producing a low-priced ebook can be the way to go to make our fortune online.

But is that really the right business model for turning information and training into high value for your customer and profit for your info product business?

As part of a broad business plan, the question I ask people who come to us looking for help grow their online information marketing business is "What is your complete monetization plan?"

In other words, is that ALL you are going to sell to your customer is a $10 ebook or is part of a more elaborate sales funnel that drives additional, higher profit, back-end sales?

The truth is that very few (if anyone) makes a living selling a $10 ebook, if there is no additional plan for monetizing your internet traffic and low-end customers, then you may build a $500/month info product business, but you certainly will not build a $5,000-$10,000/month information marketing business…if that is your goal.

Why A $10 Ebook Can Backfire On You

1. The value makes it look cheap which disuades people from buying (even if the material is good). Let's say you have researched natural methods of lowering cholesteral and put that into a 50-page ebook…now if you REALLY had some interesting and valuable content to share with your market – will your prospect believe you have value at a price of $10? Especially in today's market where 99% of low-priced informational ebooks are either unprofessional, spammy or useless, your prospect most likely already has dismissed your offer based on seeing such a low price.

2. The price is too low to attract partners, even if you give them 80% of the profits, the commission is not great so you won't get many people promoting for you and thus you lose the leverage affiliates and market authority holders can give you…UNLESS it is tied to an upsell or back-end where they will get paid as well

3. When people look to sell stuff cheap it tells me they don't know how to add real value to a marketplace…now this may be an exception, but in the hundreds of people we have coached, that's my overall observation.

What I would recommend is that you come up with a higher-end package of information (in the $67-$97 range is good) which can be the material from your ebook bundled with an audio series or video series, day-by-day checklist, additional written content (Ex. for cholesteral, perhaps a recipe book and exercise guide), interview or two with experts, etc… will all let you get to a higher price point that will be more attractive to partners and overall, will have more margin and make you look more trustworthy and more important in your market.

In that sense, I would look at your ebook as being a "piece" of your ultimate product offering.

Then, you work on an up-front sales funnel that provides a focused campaign to draw traffic and convert them into warm leads and ultimately – customers.

I still get people who join us over at InfoMarketer'sZone - committed to producing their first or next information product – but can't believe that they could write their ebook or produce their professional infoproduct in 30-days or less…sometimes just within days!

Not only will these info products be top sellers, but also provide quality, in-demand content professionally – these are not cheap, crappy ebooks but rather very highly valued, strong market leading ebooks that will earn you money and build your reputation in your market.

THE REAL SECRET TO QUICK AND PROFESSIONAL EBOOK WRITING

Writers and non-writers alike, pay attention to this…the advice that follows comes directly from having developed and coached info product entrepreneurs delivering hundreds of ebooks, reports, videos, phsyical material and other infoproducts to the market over the last 8-years…

First, many people believe that the toughest part of writing an ebook is either:

the actual writing of the ebook

finding the content to put in your ebook

The reality is, neither of these matter as much as how you plan and organize your ebook…do this correctly and writing your ebook will be a breeze!

Finding, getting or paying for content is the easy part – the MOST important thing to both writing an ebook that people will want and find valuable AND making it easy as well as quick is to…

1. Know the ultimate question or purpose you are addressing with your ebook…this should be organized around avoiding a strong pain or achieving a very highly demanded pleasure. For example, How can I lose 10lbs without giving up the food I love? That would be the ultimate question – the question you have got to organize all of the other questions and content around. Having your info product organized around a highly demanded, clear and urgent desired question sets it apart from all of the others that simply seek to "inform". Having a clear target to shoot for suddenly brings laser focus to your ebook writing project virtually eliminating wasted time, making you vastly more productive.

2. And Then…come up with an outline of questions for each chapter…Ex. If your ultimate objective is to teach losing weight without giving up what someone loves…then your ebook chapters may look something like this

Why we gain weight – the factors involved

How to manage stress in your life so you aren't always eating

How much exercise do you REALLY need?

The non-dieter's Diet Plan

How to keep focus and motivation for long-term weight loss…etc

Now, armed with the exact areas of focus for your ebook, you can begin researching – but what are you looking for?

QUESTIONS THAT FIT YOUR OUTLINE

What you want to uncover are the top 8-10 questions that your market asks most often about the chapters you have included in your ebook.

So, you head to discussion forums, ezine article directories, magazines (offline), blogs, Amazon to find books related to your topic and look at their table of contents as well as user reviews and comments, and so on…

What you are looking for are common (repeated) frustrations, questions and tips that focus on certain questions that you then organize under the appropriate chapter outline for your ebook.

Do this correctly and within hours, you will have 6-8 chapters filled with common questions your market struggle with to achieve the outcome required in that chapter.

Now you can fill in the blanks…that's right, with the proper outlining techniques writing your ebook becomes as simple as filling in the blanks. In fact, I have developed content for ebooks by simply finding experts to interview around each chapter – ask the 8-10 questions you have and within 1-hour, you have a complete chapter written.

The secret – of course – is to properly plan and organize your outline so that finding content for your ebook and getting it written are dead-simple and fast.

That's not all…within InfoMarketer'sZone there is a full 45-day, detailed and highly effective Blueprint to follow that gives you similar "cheats" on how to

Find killer infoproduct markets with built-in demand

Organize your content to brand yourself as both unique and an expert

Simple tips for increasing the value of your infoproducts from $27 ebooks to $997 information packages with very little extra work

Complete set of tips and tools for starting your own online info publishing business – setting up your website, writing your sales letter, taking payment, and advanced techniques of upselling, list-building and cross-selling

Turning your ebook launch into an event that will absolutely KILL in your market

This really is the key to getting hot info products out in as little as a few weeks.

Haven't we all thought of being a famous writer, where we can work at home and use our creativity, research skills and self-directed energy to produce wildly successful books, ebooks or other non-fiction infoproducts?

Typically we share information on non-fiction, "how-to" related ebooks, courses and products – because that is what we do and help others to succeed with inside InfoMarketer'sZone…but for this message, anyone who is passionate about writing their book will enjoy.

Given the growth in self-publishing through print on demand companies like Lulu, Amazon and LightningSource – we are seeing a massive growth in people actually living their dream – to write their own book and sell it both online as well as through bookstores.

I have personally coached seniors well into their 80's who have incredibly valuable experience to share with their audience – package that information and sell it as their own ebook, books and courses online.

I caught this story earlier today about a 6th grader who used her passion for animals, specifically wolves, to guide her first book – a mix of fact and fiction that took her just 3-months to write and release.

What's next on her agenda?

Already underway is a second book (a series if you will) on the same theme – a very smart decision since those who share her passion for animals and wolves will no doubt be drawn to the second book as they were to the first.

The point being, of course, that we have never lived in a time where making your dream to become a famous writer is so much under our own control. We have the ability to take our imagination and research skills, quickly dictate or write that into ebooks, books, audio programs or even video programs and expose them to the world through our own online marketing perhaps leveraging print on demand publishers to reach offline buyers and ship physical versions of our books.

What will your first (or next) book be? Leave us a comment and let us know what you would like to write about?

Here are 5 proven methods we use to drive tens of thousands of visitors to our ebook businesses each day…

1. Blogs and blogging. Everyone who sells an ebook on the internet (or who sells pretty much anything for that matter) should have their own blog. Posting keyword relevant content to your blog each day will cast a very powerful net drawing hundreds of visitors to your blog each day. The key then is to move those visitors toward your ebook sales sites turning them from readers into buyers. Start a blog around your topic, post content daily – we go through a daily content publishing system as part of InfoMarketer'sZone - and pull that traffic back into your sales process through opt-in squeeze pages or forms where you can follow up by email with your readers introducing them to your ebook sales page.

2. Paid traffic through pay-per-click ads on Google (Adwords), MSN and such. We use pay-per-click traffic early in the life of new ebook websites in order to systematically test response against keywords (so we know which ones tend to be used by buyers and which ones aren't) and to help refine the sales pages in the early days. After a few weeks of pay-per-click ads you can typically drill down to 10-15 highly profitable keyword campaigns that give you tremendous insight into keywords you can begin to optimize your free content around and take your traffic generation to the next level.

3. . Partners/Affiliate program – paying your referrals a commission on each sale they send to your Lulu ebook sales page (or any sales page you have for your ebook) when visitors they refer make a sale is a powerful incentive for major authority figures in your market to drive massive traffic your way. If you don't cater to building powerful affiliates then you are leaving huge money on the table.

4. Article writing and syndication. Ok, you've no doubt heard that you should be writing 500-800 word articles around the keywords you have identified as profitable when marketing your ebook online, in fact, you want to be writing articles that serve two main purposes: 1) Those that you submit to authority directories mainly to get the backlinks to your ebook sales page on Lulu and 2) Articles you write to impress readers and drive them back to your site. Often we outsource dozens of articles to accomplish objective 1, while we focus on writing 4-6 high quality articles each week that accomplishes number 2

5. Social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Digg and others that help to pre-sell your ebook in social situations driving highly qualified traffic back to your ebook sales page on Lulu or elsewhere.

Taken together, these 5 traffic generation techniques are extremely powerful and can quickly ramp up your traffic, sales and profits after you put them into practice.

You would think that e-books were just invented by the hype arising from the Kindle, Sony eBook Reader and now iPad and even the iPhone as Apple offers a growing number of ebooks through their iTunes directory.

In fact, eBooks have been around for more than a decade and have been selling extremely well – mainly in PDF format – for most of that time.

We have had our Create & Market Your Own Ebooks System in place for 8-years now helping hundreds of people successfully create and market their own digital ebooks – and that was BEFORE the big push with e-book readers.

But certainly, mainstream adoption of ebooks is suddenly opening up the world of self-publishing and writing ebooks to millions who had previously though that the world of publishing was only for celebrities and experts.

A common question I get now is "So Why Would An Ebook I Write Sell Anyway?"

There are two doubts, the first is why would someone buy an electronic version of a non-fiction book versus the physical version they can get in the bookstore and second, why would anyone buy something that they would write?

To the first question, while you can certainly market an ebook version of a typical bookstore book, that is not the really big opportunity…in fact, the bigger opportunity with digital ebooks and info products is to go beyond the general fluff you get with most formulaic books in a bookstore targeting more desparate markets with pin-point, laser-focused systems and information that fulfill their desires.

I think of these as more digital training packages than ebooks, a more valuable asset to your customer because they can use your ebook to achieve something that is backed by great emotional desire and desparation…and for that they will pay a premium.

MY STORY — A $67 EBOOK?

I have helped companies put together Million dollar training seminars and consulting programs for years, then in 2001 I wrote my first info product package which consisted of a 95-page Guidebook, 25-page workbook, two 5-page special reports and 2 audio interviews selling for $67.

At the time, my costs to start that business were less than $100 (mainly graphics for website and basic setup for webhosting/autoresponder, etc…) – I made 12 sales in the first week of that product going live which returned many times my investment.

What is even cooler is that the same product (with updates each year) still sells like crazy today, but now we have 11 others.

70% of our sales are digital products while 30% are physical – books and DVD's.

EBOOKS DO SELL IF…

1. You focus on a desire your market has to be, have, do or avoid something at a highly emotional level. E-books are emotional buys to exceptionally desparate buyers. Think someone who is at wits end trying to deal with a troubled teen, an alcoholic spouse, a lifetime of shyness, a mountain of stress, a painful health condition, a frustration with their current life situation, a passion to play an instrument like their favorite idol, etc…

2. That you package a system – your own method for solving a particular problem or achieving a strongly desired end result. Most books in the bookstore are general overviews of a particular topic (Ex Yoga for Beginners), but what you can do as an ebook author is APPLY that knowledge to partucular sub-niches – Yoga for the new Mom, Yoga to deal with Anxiety… Do you see what I mean? By taking general knowledge often available in bookstores and apply it to specific market desires you can charge more, keep far more of the profits (with ebooks you keep it all) AND have a happier customer because they get it instantly.

3. That you continue to serve your customer with additional help and products. This is your hidden, powerful advantage — When someone buys from our company, they are put into a system where we continue to send them useful information, updates, interviews (many at no charge), and then when we have a new product to release, the customer is happy to buy from us.

It is the close relationship of having someone buy your ebook online that allows you to keep this close relationship with your reader – something that is much harder to do for authors that write books in bookstores.

As anyone in business knows, acquiring your customer is the toughest part, so being able to continue feeding that relationship and offering them additional products and services is what builds the immense growth in your own info product business – all started with your ebook.

Let me put this to rest once and for all…ebooks do sell, they sell extremely well and they CAN sell for much more than books do in the bookstore AND they can fuel tremendous income opportunties and business options that are virtually limitless. With the current mass market adoption of ebook readers, that opportunitiy will now grow astronomically – and this is the right time to get moving.

You will find all the information you need about what is involved in creating and marketing your own ebooks online to decide if this may be a direction you want to take…better move fast!
