We get asked all of the time, how do you get people to see and buy your ebooks or books online?

With considerable detail, the tutorials within InfoMarketer'sZone walk top book sellers and marketers through several techniques for getting traffic and buyers for their ebooks and books, one of those is the adoption of social networking platforms – like Twitter.

Think of Twitter as one giant seminar or publicity event for your book or ebook…happening constantly, 24-hours a day, 7-days a week – you can reach thousands and they, in turn can reach thousands and so on…

Even better – you are not directly selling TO them, you are getting involved with them, talking to them, sharing with them, helping them and having fun with them…isn't that the way MORE books are really sold?

GETTING SERIOUS ABOUT TWITTER

Step 1. Unfortunately, many people think signing up for Twitter is the key…yes it is a starting point, but signing up and waiting for something to happen is like organizing a networking event and then not inviting or talking to anyone…won't work will it?

Step 2. Be Engaged. This part demands that you use Twitter Search (or better yet, download the freely available Tweetdeck utility that has a better search capability) and create ongoing searches around keywords of interest to people who you would target for your book or ebook. Say you have an ebook about "stress relief" – then create searches for "reduce stress" "stress", "stop stress", "best book about stress", etc… The idea is that you see discussions around these topics and begin to usefullly insert yourself in the various "watercooler" conversations going on that will get people to see you and begin to follow you. Using the approach, you can soon have your first few hundred followers and be off on your way.

Step 3. Post useful information. Each day try and post at least 3-4 times with useful links ,links back to your articles, blog posts, tips, reviews of other articles, etc… You must do this faithfully for several weeks (even months) and it WILL pay off. Sometimes you swear you are posting into a black hole, but people will notice, you will gain more followers and you will build new relationships each time.

Step 4. Promote - There's noting wrong with mixing in a promotional post or two each day IF you are also helping, involved in the mix, posting other useful content…and these promotional posts will get responses over time. Just stay away from getting any higher than 40% or so of promotional content…that is a huge turnoff for serious Twitter followers.

Step 5. Ask Questions, Engage and Mix In Video. Mix it up a little. I have found some of my most commented posts have been those that asked a question or asked people to review a video I just posted on YouTube, etc… Keep it interesting and fresh

Why take the trouble of building all of this up on Twitter?

Two major reasons:

1. Marketing is moving this way anyway — word of mouth, social avenues are becoming THE internet and will continue to do so over the next several years. So either move now or fall way behind

2. It works…after nearly a year on Twitter, we have seen growth in traffic and sales go from nearly nothing to nearly 20% of what we do…that's a BIG deal. I tink of it as email marketing in the early decade, then blogging about 3-years ago (which now is massively important to book marketing – see InfoMarketer'sZone to see why and how) – now we stand at the apex with social networking…better get to it.

Just don't be fooled by thinking that you can casually use Twitter, it must be done seriously, with committment, conviction and in the right way…only then will you see results that may surprise you, I know it has me!

Feelings of euphoria quickly change to feelings of fear and frustration for you as a book or ebook writer if you can't quickly generate publicity and buyers for your new material.

So many times I see people who have done all of the HARD work to get their book or ebook written, but then struggle to make sales because they can't get enough publicity or traffic to see your newest creation.

Whether you have chosen to host your book or ebook on Amazon, Clickbank, through a middleman such as Smashwords or other retail directory, you still need to get word out about your new product.

Those of us who have built strong information marketing businesses understand that marketing is the single biggest factor in whether a book, ebook, manual or course sells or not.

The good news is that there a many great ways to generate publicity and traffic resulting in more buyers for your book – we have courses on dozens within InfoMarketer'sZone, but here are 4 of our favorite ways to generate publicity for your new book:

1. Superstar Blogging

Start a blog targeting your market sharing daily tips, strategies, personal stories, etc…targeting the keywords your customers would use to find answers to questions that are in your book. Every once in a while promote your book in the body of the blog posts and through links on your blog.

2. Video Promotion

Create some YouTube videos sharing a few of your top recipes with links back to your book on Amazon. There are two options here, "talking head" videos where you actually appear on the video and share a tip, technique, strategy or story with your prospect driving them back to your website or site where your ebook is listed OR a screen capture of slides where you can walk your prospect through a quickie slide presentation driving them back to your website

3. Content Syndication

Write articles and syndicate them on article directories pointing back to your book. These articles must have compellig titles, have relevant keywords and contain a strong resource box that convinces your reader to come back to your website

4. Squeeze & Sell

Create a "landing page" with a freebie for your market. Many online marketers call this a "squeeze page" because you are "squeezing" your prospect into accepting an incentive in exchange for giving you their email contact information. Once they opt-in, you send them a mini-course, report or other freebie that gives them a "taste" of what you can offer linking back to your book or ebook as a warm prospect.

For example, we helped setup a campaign recently for the author of a recipe book listed on Amazon, where we setup a "squeeze" page that offered visitors 6 of the TOP recipes in exchange for opting-in to our information marketer's list. The list quickly grew, each email offered a recipe as promised with a link back to the book on Amazon and quickly sales tripled.

Creating publicity and driving traffic to your book is critical to making your new ebook or book a top seller.

For most authors, using social networking platforms such as Facebook or Twitter sparks either looks like a waste of time or appears too challenging to be worth your time or effort.

But can Facebook be used to promote your new book or ebook?

We cover dozens of book promotion methods within InfoMarketer'szone in great detail including tutorials, techniques and actual templates – social networking is one recent addition.

Remember, social networking is all about getting discussions and social proof going – that can have a big impact on your sales.

Here are 10 ways you can use Facebook to help promote your new book:

1. 600 Million people and growing, so the audience is big and getting bigger – it's no longer just a teeny bopper "like" system

2. Simple to link up with existing contacts (friends, family, co-workers, etc…) where you can announce your book and get some immediate sales

3. Announce events such as book signings, teleseminars, webinars or other marketing sessions as "Events" which will get you some attention

4. Find some associated groups, associations, book clubs, etc… that may either buy your book or be intrested in bulk-buy or distributing your book

5. Customize your "cold" landing page where you give a way a "bonus" that gets people to "Like" you, after that they become automatically subscribed to your news feeds (your regularly updated wall content) which gives you another avenue to regularly reach your audience.

6. Post snippets of your book to get comments – your cover, an image from your ebook, a tip, etc…once people leave comments others typically swarm to snap up your book

7. Post case studies and testimonials (use Youtube for this as well) – get them to hold your book and often you will get a surge of sales from having the endorsement

8. Post weekly Q&A or FAQ around your topic to give value and get discussions going, then metion the link back to your book whenever you provide advice that would also be contained in your work

9. By posting regularly to your wall with great content (funny, real experiences, tips, etc…) you can build quite a large, loyal following. I would suggest you get an intern, part-timeer to post daily for you and watch your fans grow, you will notice more and more traffic coming your way

10. Facebook and Twitter content will become more relevant to search. Google is already factoring in sites that are referred on social networking platforms into its calculation for authority on a given site, meaning that if you have thousands of people naturally liking your content and sharing your links with others your site will rise in the search engines. In addition, Google itself just recently launched its 1+ search where users can rate content pages similar to what happens on Facebook and Twitter – so learning to communicate, share, participate and work that into your online marketing is here to stay, we may as well get used to it.

It's a tough lesson to learn, that even if you have the best book or ebook in the world, without marketing, it will not sell.

Interesting enough, even without a very good book or ebook, you can make a ton of cash with great marketing, BUT…of course you will lose the loyalty and any follow-on book sales from those customers. The point being that marketing is a very major part of your desire to build a loyal following and earn profit from your book writing.

Ideally, the best combination is that you have a good quality, information-based ebook or book that truly helps or entertains your reader and you use some basic online marketing techniques to make sure that you create a buying frenzy around your books

Over at InfoMarketer'sZone, here are some of the most common questions we get from new and experienced writers who can't understand why their book is not selling:

Why isn't my publisher working very hard to promote my book?

How come nobody comes to my website even though I spent a small fortune having it developed?

What is the best way to get more traffic and attention to my new ebook or book?

How do I create a "following" and keep in touch with them?

What all of this comes down to is marketing your ebook or book – and here is 3 ways that you simply cannot ignore, they will at least triple your book sales and in some cases, could do much more

1. Blogging - there are 3 aspects of blogging that make it an extremely powerful tool for an author to use in internet marketing a) It is a way to keep current content in front of the search engines which both will get you ranked higher and will provide more content to be ranked – you own more internet real-estate and that means more traffic b) Your readership get more frequent content and learn to hear from you regularly, that way you can mix subtle and not-so-subtle promotion into daily updates and c) Syndication – blogs have built in syndication as they generate RSS feeds which can then be picked up by thousands of sites around the web which bring in extra links to your site ranking it still higher. Two important things to remember about blogging – stay on topic and focus on the keywords your readers use to find information that you provide

2. Press Releases – yes the idea of issuing online press releases is still to get them picked up by major publicity houses and that sometimes does happen, but the stronger argument for issuing press releases is the combination of syndication (as with blogging) as well as high authority, inbound links back to your website. All things considered, if you have a website marketing a weight loss diet ebook and there are thousands of others, you will rank higher if you get more quality inbound links to your site and that can mean easily tripling your traffic and sales on its own

3. List Building – a major part of your traffic generation and marketing should be aimed at bringing your prospect back to a page where the sole focus is to get them to opt-in to your list where you then have permission to send them updates, news, opinions, reviews and of course, some promotions. Within a few months of marketing you can have a list of thousands of loyal followers that are far more likely to buy your ebook and books but also other recommendations which you make and earn commissions as an affiliate – a great way to keep providing your list with great offers as well as grow your income. For instance, if you sold them a $37 ebook on dieting – you can follow up with a series of emails on exercise and then offer them a $97 exercise program where you may earn up to $50 commission each time they buy. So you have now turned that customer from a $37 customer into an $87 customer just because you manage your list. Multiply that by thousands and you begin to see the potential.

Marketing your book or ebook is YOUR responsibility – and with the right techniques and strategies you will soon learn that you wouldn't want it any other way because with the power of marketing in your hands you can truly triple your sales and grow your profits by leaps and bounds over time.

I was talking the head of a city-wide writing group the last couple of days and discovered that of their 75 members, nearly 3/4 of them had already written or started to write their first book.

Not surprisingly, most had not been formerly trained in writing or English, though most were college graduates.

But more important, none of them had what I like to call the "Marketing Mindset"

That is, they all realized that they were not marketers and certainly had concerns as well as some planned training scheduled to help them market and sell their book.

That got me to thinking…how many writers, info product publishers and marketers wait until AFTER they have chosen their topic, written their outline, even finished their book or ebook BEFORE thinking about how they will market or sell it?

Probably 95% – possibly even more?

BOOK WRITER'S MARKETING MINDSET

Having worked with successful authors and first-time book writers for years over at InfoMarketer'sZone – there is clearly a BIG problem here.

See, the Marketing Mindset required to successfully market a book to an audience starts with the niche market you choose, the topic you use to guide your book or ebook, the "angle" or unique position you take to differentiate your work from all of the others…this has to be BUILT-IN to your writing project from the beginning.

Think about it…you have just spent the last 3-months using every last minute of your free time to write a book about your passion – let's say you have an interest in helping people relax and live a stress-free life (just picked this one out of the air folks!)…now you have to write a product description, sales letter and some ad copy that will help sell that book.

To effectively market you need to focus like a laser beam on a segment of the market – let's say you decide that stressed-out Mom's are the target.

Wait a minute…if you had of just thought about that BEFORE you wrote the book, maybe more of the content would have focused on the problem's of stressed-out Mom's – hmmmmm

Okay, now we need to focus on the #1 concern that impacts stressed-out Mom's – what frustrations and anxieties do they have that lead to a strong desire to change?

Perhaps it is that they feel completely socially isolated and fear losing everything they had before their first child (career, friends, active social life, loving husband, free time, etc…)

Oooops….again, if we had only thought of that BEFORE we started writing, imagine how we could have constructed the book to directly address these feelings and sources of anxiety within our target market?

Every aspect of how your book idea is developed, your book outline takes shape, your title is designed and your content researched has to do with how you will market your book AFTER it is written.

Waiting until you are already started writing your book or even worse, after you are finished is one of the biggest reasons why most books simply DO NOT SELL.

Make sure you don't make the same mistake, follow the 45-day Info Publishing Blueprint which helps you implement the "Marketing Mindset" so that your book is a surefire winner when it hits the web or retail stores.

Why does someone who already owns 10 books on improving their public speaking go out and spend $47 for a new course on how to improve their public speaking?

Do you have an experience, knowledge, or training in your life that you think would help offer someone else hope, inspiration, empowerment or help them overcome a challenge in their life?
