Big money earners making a living marketing their own information products – ebooks, reports, audios and videos – understand that building a highly driven, active list of affiliates doesn't happen by just sitting back and waiting for them to find you.
To realize the huge benefit of an active affiliate sales force, you must be as aggressive about tracking them down and selling them on your program as you do marketing your ebook or infoproduct website.
What you are really looking for are the players that already have a trusted, long-term position in your market.
Here are a few ways to find them…
1. Search google under keywords that you use to market your own products – find your competitors and see who is marketing their products. When you find some of your leading competitors, do a search under their product title and name, you will typically see dozens of affiliate listings come up – look closely at them for signs of traffic (use the Alexa toolbar), Google Pagerank to get an idea of their ranking, perform a whois search to find out how long their site has been listed and look at article and newsletter archives as well as forums for signs of activity and longevity.
2. Market your affiliate program. Just as you would write articles, submit forum posts, issue press releases, to market your main sales site – do the same for your affiliate program. Focus on why you are unique (Differentiated product, affiliate bonuses, affiliate training plan, affiliate conference calls, affiliate private members site, etc…)
3. Use article directories – I've explained this technique fully over at: http://www.infomarketerszone.com/public/136.cfm?sd=2 – on how to mine the better article directories to find big players in your market.
Sitting back expecting affiliate to flock to your program just doesn't work anymore, there are too many other affiliate programs competing for the really active affiliates.
The good news is that most affiliate managers are still daft in the way they target and approach affiliates, so by acting now you can still attract major players to your infoproduct business.
