What is it that allows leading entrepreneurs to consistently outperform 99% of the others in their market?

While I’ve launched enough businesses and helped enough people build their own full-time business ventures online and offline to know that each entrepreneur is different, and yet…

There are some consistent traits that are consistent across all of the top earning, high profit entrepreneurs I have worked with, and yes, I notice these traits in myself as well.

1. Don’t Settle For What Is

Entrepreneurs have an unusually high level of dissatisfaction with the status quo.

In fact, what motivates entrepreneurs more than anything else is a high level of pain associated with “settling” for the status quo and very little pain (even pleasure) with change and progress.  While many non-entrepreneurs fear change, entrepreneurs crave it

2. Obsessive Focus

Entrepreneurs may sometimes appear to be rather scattered, some have a long history of different business ventures, however show me a successful entrepreneur operating a profitable business and you can guarantee that business owner will be laser-focused on his business and market at that time.  The ability to work through “noise”, setbacks and criticism is a common (and necessary) trait of high performance entrepreneurs

3. Big Picture, Small Detail Thinkers

Top profit earners I have worked with have a very powerful ability to see a clear, long-term,  BIG goal for their business and at the same time focus on the details required to get there.  Sure, some have tended to be dominant long-term or detail-oriented, but each of them has been able to balance both to the point where they can add additional partners or staff to help with strategic or operational areas of their business

4. Meaningful Action

Another key difference you will notice with top entrepreneurs is that they understand (in fact live and breathe) the most important fundamentals to making money and serving their market.  Where many other less successful business owners keep themselves “busy”, the high performance entrepreneur stays busy on the areas that matter most…knowing their market, creating/finding valuable products, connecting with their market and influencing their market to buy followed by providing a high level of value

5. Self Confidence

How do entrepreneurs face fear, anxiety, frustration, market challenges, economic challenges, personnel issues, etc…?

They do it by having a very strong degree of confidence in their ability to deal with whatever is thrown at them.  Building self confidence is a prerequisite to starting a top performing business.  I have yet to find a successful entrepreneur that is not confident in their ability to progress their businesses.

Do you have a tip that you believe helps identify successful entrepreneurs?
