You go ahead and create an ebook and now you want to sell it online, but you notice that your website gets a trickle of visitors and nobody seems to be buying your ebook -so what gives?

There is some good news and some bad news…

The bad news is, just putting your ebook up for sale online does not mean it will make you any money at all

The good news is that with some online marketing knowledge, a little effort and lots of persitance you can sell ebooks online and really crank out some serious profit.

Here are 3 techniques we have used (and that are shared in detail inside InfoMarketer’sZone) that can really grow your ebook sales on the internet.

1. Make sure your topic is well researched with a target market in mind.  Too many times when we review ebooks that are not selling online they were developed with little or no sense for how to uncover high demand markets and topics.  The ebook is to vague, uninteresting or is not clearly a priority for a group of hungry buyers – the result is that it just won’t sell no matter how much marketing effort you put behind it.  The good news is that nearly always the content you have put in your ebook can be used and re-packaged (sometimes re-organized) into an ebook that will be attractive to your market, will fill a hungry desire and will sell like crazy.  Knowing your target market, what they want and helping them solve frustrations or problems is critical to sell ebooks online

2. Dominate the search engines to get tons of free traffic.  Really this comes down to how well your content is being ranked on the search engines. If you are relying 100% on search traffic, then it all comes down to ranking for keywords that people search for around your topic. Specific targeting – on-page, domain name, title of blog posts, tags, and backlinks – will all get you ranked higher for targeted keywords faster which means you will get more traffic.

If you don’t specifically target, but generate allot of content, eventually that content will hit as well, but it will be more sporadic, haphazard and as such, take much longer to get the traffic ramped up.

Believe me – I have older sites where I used the massive content approach and eventually things started to really hit, but it took months and months.

Over the last few years my sites and blogs are now optimized much earlier around target keywords where traffic ramps up much faster – and it is quite relevant so conversion improves as well on things like list signups, affiliate clicks or sales of my own products.

3. Have a sales funnel.  The best written sales letters or sales pages online result in 3-5% conversion of visitors into buyers, and these are the VERY best, not the norm.  What that means is that even the very best sales pages lose at least 95% of their targeted visitors without a sale.

What this means is that you MUST put in place an intermediate sales funnel where you capture the attention and interest of your prospect in a way such that they will come back and look for your help, advice or commentary again and again.

For some people, this means building a list, providing an incentive for your prospects to sign up to your list so you can continue to “drip” market to them over and over again.  For others, their blog or video TV show is the method they use to capture their audience’s attention and gives them a chance to repeatedly market to them.

The end result is that conversion rates balloon from 2-5% upward of 10%+, that’s where you can sell ebooks online and make some very serious money.

Writing an ebook doesn’t mean you will strike it rich.  But writing the right kind of ebook and knowing how to position it online DOES make an incredibly powerful method of making money online.
