One of the biggest revelations I have had in the last 10-years as I have been able to spend time with high achievers in business, sports and in life is that, without exception, they learn from others who have gone before.

In fact, one of the biggest differences between those that are able to carve out $100K, $200K or even $500K in their own career or small business versus those that eclipse $1M and often go well beyond is realizing and then embracing the fact that you can’t do it alone.

What do labels like solo-preneur, micro-preneur, and even entrepreneur  mean to you?

For many, there is a high degree of romance linked to “self-made” and “solo-success” when in fact the reality of how thriving companies are grown is quite the opposite.

Some of you will discover this on your own as you rub up against the ceiling of what you can do in your own business.

I know we did.

It took me pulling what’s left of my hair out trying to run 4 on-line businesses myself AND not paying enough attention to the advice of those who went before.

After all…I’m my own person right?

Learn Without Copying

I had to remember back to my early twenties when, over the course of 10-years, I worked myself up from a minimum wage job ($3.50/hr back then) to a six-figure income through several moves taking on more responsibility – and how that happened.

Yes, the rapid growth curve came from a huge ambition driving me, but it also came by learning from others at each stage.

Not only did I learn critical pieces along the way, but I made sure I applied what I learned to my own life, my own style, my own situation and used what I learned to my own advantage.

The same thing is true in business.

You MUST continue to dig deep, expose yourself to many different people, role models, approaches, techniques and systems…it doesn’t mean you will use everything you learn…in fact most of it you may choose NOT to use.

It only takes one thing from each person, situation or system for you to improve your own business by 10X

We see this happen inside InfoMarketer’sZone often as others pick up a tip, technique or strategy or learn from someone else in the private mentor’s forum a small nugget that then results in huge gains for them in their business.

Think of it this way…the universe is filled with all of these puzzle pieces, they can be put together in different ways to arrive at different, completed puzzle pictures.

Without finding the right combination, they are rather useless.   You are unable to complete the picture.

The same is true of your business.

I study people I don’t particularly like but who are getting results because I know I will learn some THING that I can apply to my business even if I do things 90% differently.

We can learn from everyone who came before – even if it is to NOT follow their path, that’s extremely important and worth being exposed to so you don’t have to waste time learning that on your own.

So, next time you consider learning from someone, studying someone, following someone, finding a mentor, etc…don’t do it to copy them…do it to learn from them and take that knowledge, put it together with other learnings so you can continue to build on what went before.
