What do you sell?

Sounds like such a simple question, yet for many people caught up in building their online business and brand, it is not often an obvious one.

In an offline world, you just don’t start a business without having something to sell.

Imagine signing a $10K/month lease for retail space and then having nothing in mind to sell?

Yet, in an online world, so many people do begin building awareness and a brand (whether they know it or not) through their own website, blogs, social networking activity (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, etc…) without having a product to sell.

In fact, judging by how many emails and InfoMarketer’sZone students we work with, it is NORMAL for people to get started online without having any idea what product they will sell or key target market they will pursue.

Just by way of example…

  • We regularly work with bloggers that vary from newbies through near-celebrities that haven’t a clue what they should sell…some of them having built Millions of followers over years of activity that may have made some smallish money through ads – but really don’t have a strong monetization strategy
  • Another group we work with often are “experts” who have provided local services in the past that now want to expand their influence, but don’t have an immediate, obvious product to sell.  Examples include: relationship counsellors, lawyers, chiropractors, personal trainers, music teachers, golfers, teachers, speakers, trainers, etc…
  • It is also quite common to see offline business people (with say a retail store) explore expanding their revenue stream online…the debate here is if they should extend their offline business through e-commerce or start something completely new

What Do You Sell?

My advice to each of these people is start with selling systems, solutions, and outcomes to a very well defined target market (be it one they already serve offline or online through their content creation or be it something brand new)

More specifically, these can be digital information products such as ebooks, training programs, video series, membership sites, seminars, webinars, or any one of the other methods of sharing knowledge that will help people realize transformation in their lives.

For example, it could help them…

  • Lose leg fat
  • Overcome a heath challenge
  • Get better at making friends
  • Get a promotion at work
  • Realize a life-long dream to become an author, musician, etc…
  • Raise confident kids
  • Form or repair relationships
  • Or an endless list of other highly desired life transformations

Why Digital Information Products?

We live in a world where…

  • People are buying more and more online, less and less from bricks and mortar and this will continue rapidly through the next half-decade
  • Increasingly people are buying through social relationships and engagement versus “search and locate” items to buy

What does this mean?

While you used to be able to focus on being first in the search engines to capture massive sales within your product and market space, today those same eyeballs are increasingly spent on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pintrest, Snapchat and other social engagement platforms.

Dominating these social platforms involves the following:

  1. Making sure you are seen
  2. Making sure you are relevant
  3. Making sure you are omnipresent (across and within specific platforms)
  4. Making sure you are engaging (creating trust and social proof for your personality and value to the marketplace all in one step)
  5. Making sure you are pulling people back into your products and those products are both relevant and they work for their audience so they will spread the word

In other words, you increasingly must become a celebrity and be helpful in bringing about transformation in people’s lives in order to be seen, gain interest, trust and credibility and get people to engage and buy from you and your business.

Packaging your advice, experience, knowledge and system for bringing about life transformation meets all of these objectives giving you not only something powerful to sell, but a way to simultaneously brand yourself an expert in your field AND build a solid profit stream at the same time.

In each case of someone working with us either inside InfoMarketer’sZone or on a 1:1 coaching basis there has always been an urgent problem they can help solve via codifying a set of steps that gets turned into their own marquee product.

There is no longer any need to wonder what you should sell.

Make it your #1 priority this month to get started on your very own, signature digitial information product – not only will it produce a strong line of income but will provide the foundation for you to dominate your niche market and win over your audience.
