Each day we execute around our various online businesses, some things work, some things don’t – but we learn each and every day and have for more than a decade now.

1. Know How Money Is Made

Many people that join us over at InfoMarketer’sZone arrive with websites, blogs, or an idea for launching an online business, but aren’t really clear on how money is made and how that relates to the different websites, blogs or social networking profiles they may have (or want to build).   Knowing the basics of affiliate marketing, advertising/content publishing, services and product marketing around products you create is critical in the beginning so you organize your initial internet marketing business around your money making goals and plans.

2. It’s A Real Business – Treat It That Way

Most people fall into the trap of thinking of an internet business as “part time”, something that you can spend a few hours a week and it will somehow grow magically into a full-time income.  The fact is that you must put everything you have into the business, make it your priority – your obsession if you want it to grow big.  If you have another job – then be prepared to find 3-5 hours each day and at least one day on the weekend to build your internet business on the side until it gets to the size you want.  If you treat it as “part time”, a secondary source of income or a hobby that is exactly what it will become

3. Execute More Than You Study

So many people research, study, ask and continually fret over how to do something or if a particular technique or strategy will work.  Study someone who is successful, learn from them and then EXECUTE – apply ideas to your own business and see for yourself.  Soon you will find you are learning more than others are teaching – when you reach that point you know you are heading in the right direction.  You want to lead, not follow.

4. Have A Big WHY! 

Anything in life worth having takes hard work, persistence, dedication and a long-term view – you only get that if you are driven by a big, emotionally charged WHY.  It must be more than money, more than just paying off debt – get to the heart of why you MUST succeed with your internet marketing business and you will become unstoppable.

5. Leverage

With everything you do, think “How can I leverage my effort through automation, expanding my sales force, creating once and selling many times, etc…” One of our very first coaching clients was a relationship consultant who had built a terrific practice over the last 20-years, but for family reasons had to move cities and faced losing everything to start all over again in a new city in a new country.   That’s when it hit her — she had to take the various knowledge, techniques, tools and outcomes she had practiced one-on-one for all those years and package them into information products and she had less than a year to do it.   Suddenly, this client understood what “leverage” really meant.   Do you?
