So many of you are thinking about, planning or actually starting down the path of building your own online marketing business, after all, that’s why many of you are even at this blog…so here’s something that should be very helpful.

Like anything else, if we can  distill down information into the MOST useful, that saves us all time and helps us ever more – correct?

  1. Know Why You WILL Succeed – No Excuses – this is a mindset as much as a strategy or tactic, but a tip that is ESSENTIAL to your success with your own online marketing business.  To start, grow and operate ANY business you must be driven by such an overwhelming purpose that you will stop at NOTHING to ensure your success.  I can tell you that 95% of you reading this right now are likely not driven enough at this point in your life.   This number comes not from a guess, but from experience working with many of you over at InfoMarketer’sZone.  Sure, knowledge, skill, technique and effort are all critical to your success, but at the end of the day the entrepreneurs that are MOST successful succeed because they gave themselves no other option and they did not depend on anyone except themselves – no excuses!
  2. Know What Business You Are In:  Most people that think, dream and then dabble at online marketing fail to really understand the basic fundamental tenant in ANY business…have a clearly defined market, a clearly defined desire which is met with a quality product – that’s where all businesses start.   Too many people depend on others to “tell” them what to market (and those others typically have failed so why you listen is beyond me) OR make bad assumptions that go untested and ultimately result in failed or underwhelming results.  Here is a great article on using a systematic method to go from idea to product in any given niche market.  There is absolutely no excuse in this age of technology for not being able to clearly define markets, desires and to have tested your assumptions with little effort or cost – ignore this rule and you deserve what you get.  To see the top niche markets we have found perform best with online marketing businesses – download the free guide here.
  3. Define Your Value:  This step confuses most people who enter online marketing…they figure it is enough to sell the same product that 1000 others are selling or to brand themselves as hundreds of thousands of others have done with little thought given to what differentiates them in the eyes of their market.  Differentiation must be well thought out and MUST be determined based on the perceived value of you and your business toward your market.   That differentiation may be that you are more real, that you will offer value over and above the product you are selling or that you have a personality that connects well with your market.   A major HINT on the point of identifying your value is to leverage your strengths to tap into value for your marketplace making you naturally unstoppable in your niche market
  4. Planned Consistency:  Again, this is where many aspiring entrepreneurs fall short.  Building an online marketing business is somewhat like pushing a 1-ton boulder off the edge of a cliff…you have to put a TON of effort into the first few months with very little positive feedback all with the faith and unrelenting spirit that it will pay off down the road.   Consistency, determination and persistence is crucial to your journey…I have NEVER, in my decades of working with top online marketers, come across a marketer who built overnight success.  It was always the result of months and months of dedication and hard work that eventually pays off.  If you haven’t read this article on being Impatiently Patient To Succeed As An Entrepreneur – this would be a good time to give it a quick read.

Build A Business Not A Solo Venture:  This tip was something I myself did not learn until years into my online marketing experience.  I, as many do, fell for the romantic vision of working as a solo-entrepreneur calling my own shots, working from home, etc…. That quickly changed when I started working with top online marketing entrepreneurs.  What changed?  I figured out that their success was largely based on the fact that they did NOT try to do everything themselves.   Instead, they surrounded themselves with gifted people who they leveraged to help scale their business 10X the size they could have ever done on their own.  Learning to see your business as a larger venture, knowing your role will partly be hiring, defining systems for your business and motivating others is key to your longer-term success in building an online marketing empire (or at least a decently sized organization)
